Dandeli City is located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka State, India on the Banks on River kali. This comes in the Western Ghats region in North Karnataka. Dandeli is very famous for Tourism. Here Wildlife Santuaries , Paper Mills, Syntheri Rock and Forest Resorts are very Famous.

Karnataka has officially notified the Dandeli Elephant Reserve, spread over 2,321.119 sq km — including 475.018 sq km as core and the remaining as buffer areas, apart from notifying the expansion of Mysuru Elephant Reserve.

The Gazette notification dated June 4, 2015, follows the Government of India approval for establishing the Dandeli Elephant Reserve under Project Elephant.

While the core area will be the existing Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, the buffer will include areas falling under Yellapur, Kirwatti, Mundgod, and Katur range of Yellapur division; Hanagal range of Haveri division, Kalghatti range of Dharwad; Khanapur range of Belgaum division; Joida range of Karwar division; and Sambrani, Halliyal, Virnoli, Dandeli, Barchi, Jagalbet, Tinaighat, and Bhagawati range of Haliyal division.

The Anshi-Dandeli forests in Uttara Kannada and neighbouring districts are home to 60-odd elephants. These forests will officially become the second home for jumbos as they are protected under Project Elephant, a centrally sponsored initiative launched in 1992 to protect the largest terrestrial mammal in India. Mysuru Elephant Reserve (MER), spread over 6,724 sqkm and stretching along eight districts, was notified in 2002. A copy of the gazette notification accessed by TOI, puts the core area of the reserve at 475 sqkm and the buffer zone at 1,846 sqkm.

Giridhar Kulkarni, a conservationist in Uttara Kannada, said the move is crucial to reduce human, domestic stock activities in these elephant habitats. "The government should strengthen measures to protect elephants from poachers and unnatural deaths as the notification comes with a certain amount of funds for the state," he said.

Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai announced that three individuals and three institutions have been selected for the state-level environment awards for the year 2015.

Each award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, and will be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 5 at Kanteerava Indoor stadium on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Rai said C Lakshman of Bengaluru, R Parimala of Dharwad and S Harish Joshi of Mangaluru have been selected for the awards in the individual category in recognition of their contribution in environment conservation.

The institutions to be presented with the award are:Solid Waste Management Round Table, Bengaluru, Bantanooru Grama Forest Committee, Mudhol and Eco-development Committee, Dandeli.

A two-day exhibition on protection of environment will be held at Kanteerva Stadium from June 5, Rai said.

The minister said the State government had already submitted its suggestions to the K Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) last month.

He said the State government had held consultation with stakeholders of ten districts and submitted its report on April 24. The Centre, after receiving reports from all states in the Western Ghats range would issue a draft notification and thereafter 90 days would be given to invite suggestion from the general public, the minister said.
